A neat film meme [03 Sep 2005|09:21pm]
[ mood | amused ]

This is a really cool meme snatched from [info]track_04 where you don't have to read all sorts of boring facts about me but get to look at classy movie images instead :)

12 Movies Meme
1. pick 12 films you love/thoroughly enjoy.
2. find stills from each film.
3. see how many people guess correctly.

Good Film Hunting. Comments will be screened. )

EDIT: And the movies are... )

Congrats to [info]the_jun and [info]kuromitsu who both knew the titles of 7 of the 12 movies! :)

Music meme [14 Apr 2005|08:12pm]
[ mood | content ]

Got this from [info]huiwei.

Total volume of music files on my computer?
I prefer listening to CDs. Just a few weeks ago, I deleted a huge load of MP3s I haven't listened to in ages and am never going to listen to again anyway. So right now, it's a mere 1,39 GB (304 songs) that's stored on this computer.

The last CD I bought was...
The Postal Service - Give Up

Song playing right now...
The Coral - Pass it on

Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no particular order)...

[This task proved almost impossible because I have too many songs I love and listen to on a more or less regular basis. That's why I chose slightly more than 5 songs. (That didn't make things any easier but...)]

Idlewild - El Capitan.
If the perfect song is comprised of the perfect symbiosis of lyrics and music (melody, arrangement), then this is as perfect as it can get. Roddy's lyrics are always intelligent, meaningful and full of profound wisdom but some lines of El Capitan are particularly moving.
In this song, the progress from warm melancholy to sheer euphoria combined with utter sadness is absolutely mind-blowing. At the same time, the words and the music are so contrastive. The music might make you jump up and down but the lyrics are so touching on a very personal level, you can't help but sit down and cry. (Apparently, it's named after this mountain in California that people climb and jump off - to kill themselves, very obviously.) The tension of the bridge after the second chorus is especially overwhelming, and then it just stops and the song becomes a bit calmer and dreamier again and fades out nicely. Beautiful song. The best song ever written. Period.

Bloc Party - Like Eating Glass.
The song makes me feel uneasy and tears at my heart; only few songs can do that.

Belle and Sebastian - Dirty Dream Number Two.
The most charming song about wet dreams ever written.

Simon & Garfunkel - America.
Actually, it's kind of hard to pick just one Simon & Garfunkel song because they've written so many good ones that mean a lot to me. I chose this because I like the atmosphere that's both wide open and large (in terms of space because of the whole theme of traveling) and very intimate at the same time.

Hotaru - Kaijin nijuu mensou.
I really miss this band. They could've become so big if only they hadn't made the mistake of starting in a visual kei environment, a scene that's mainly driven by greed and superficiality and where good songwriting is NOT appreciated. (Do I sound bitter? Naaaah... ;) )

The Libertines - Campaign of Hate.
Brilliant tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Great song that cracks me up.

The Vines - Winning Days.
Oh, the harmonies! Beautiful! Craig's lyrics can be absolutely nonsensical at times but I like how the quieter songs (like this one) can wrap you in a warm cozy blanket of wonderful melodies and harmonies.

Which 5 people are you passing this baton to, why? (If you've already done this, comment with a link to your answer)
Because these people have a similar taste in music to mine and I'd love to read their answers. And I want to send them through the same pain I went through to come up with the answers :)

Site plug [09 Mar 2005|03:50am]
How do you get around updating your existing websites? You make a new one :)

Fairy Tales is a website for Yuki Kaori's latest manga, Fairy Cube. And my alibi for neglecting work and social activities in the last few days.

Made a survey [05 Apr 2004|04:09pm]
[ mood | cold ]

A few years back, the NME had a weekly survey called "On the couch" that they asked an artist/a band to take.
I'm not sure if they still have that survey because I haven't read an issue of the NME in a long long time, but I made an LJ survey out of it (because I obviously have no life!) ^_^

Take the survey. Please? )

Nicked from [info]1127: Survey I've taken before I'm going to tackle the one above. )

Pa-pa-paranoia [20 Feb 2004|12:48am]
[ mood | impressed ]

Just saw the first episode of Mousou Dairinin (Paranoia Agent).

My hopes for this title were extremely high and - judging from this one episode - it is far from being a letdown! It's dark, stylish, mysterious - exactly the type of anime I prefer :)
But then again, with a staff including Satoshi Kon, Masashi Ando (Studio Ghibli) and Madhouse, they'd have to mess things up royally NOT to make this show excellent.

Hello. [18 Feb 2004|01:48am]
I'm not exactly sure why I got this journal, my second LJ. I guess it has to do with having changed and trying out new things. Not necessarily getting away from certain (groups of) people. Just creating a new, more private place for me to post.

So let's see how this will turn out :)
